7 Signs Bathroom Demolition is Essential

Demolish Your Bathroom Or Work With What You Have?

Are you looking to upgrade your bathroom, but you can’t figure out if you need to demolish the existing room first? Take a check for these seven signs, each of which will tell you that you need to rip out before you can start again.

1. You Hate Everything

Sometimes in a remodel, you might wish to save some original pieces. Perhaps you love the bathtub, or you think the tiles on the walls are pretty. If that isn’t the case, and you can’t find a single thing that you like in the bathroom, then it’s time to start from fresh. Rip it all out, throw it away, and find a new look.

2. You Want To Move It

Is the bathroom in an inconvenient place? For example, it might be a long way from the bedroom, or you need to access it via a different room. In this case, the current location of the bathroom simply isn’t appropriate. What you can do is demolish the room, convert this space into a closet or make it part of a bedroom, and create a new bathroom structure elsewhere in the house.

3. Rot & Damp Have Set In

When you look at the current state of the bathroom, you may not like what you see. For a bathroom that needs remodelling, you can often find things like mould and damp, as well as rotting wood under the bath or shower. In this case, you’re safest throwing everything out and starting fresh. You can hire a company to remove all the rubbish from your home so that you don’t have to worry about transporting it elsewhere.

4. The Water Functions Poorly

Maybe you can’t get any hot water, or the water pressure is very low. It might be that there is a leak whenever you run the tap. If there’s a problem with the water, this likely lays in the plumbing pipes. Demolish the bathroom so you can get at those pipes, and have a professional plumber fix the situation before you rebuild.

5. There Are Stains Everywhere

Particularly if you have hard water, stains can build up easily. You may see green, pink or red, or blueish stains underneath where the taps have dripped. There may also be stains where a previous occupant has failed to keep the room clean, resulting in grime that cannot be scrubbed away. If this is the case, you will find it easier to demolish the fittings and remove all décor before you redecorate.

6. You Have Different Needs

If you have different needs to the previous owners, you might need to refit the bathroom to your specifications. For example, those with disabilities may need to fit standing rails, open the doorway wider, leave room inside the door for a wheelchair when the room is in use, and so on.

7. It Feels Tired

If your bathroom just feels old and tired, then you may wish to change things up for the fun of it. After all, since it’s your bathroom, you don’t really need an excuse to demolish it. If you’re thinking about it already, this is a good sign that you should go ahead and get it done. When you put in your shiny new bathroom, you will feel so much better – and it could also add value to the house.

It’s no light undertaking to demolish a bathroom, or to replace it either. If you don’t need to do it, maybe you should think again. But if it seems justified after reading this list, then go for it!
